Why barber poles are popping up in Brisbane
If you’re a Brisbane local, you may have noticed some new additions to your roads.
Blue and green barbers poles have been springing up across the city.
But they aren’t pointing you towards a haircut.
The poles are a Brisbane City Council initiative and are used to show motorists where they can make safe and legal drop-offs and pick-ups.
RACQ’s Chief Communication Officer Paul Turner tells Chris Smith the trial is a “good step forward”.
“What we’ve seen with the explosion of ride-sharing companies is that road real estate has been at a premium.
“We’ve seen a lot of Uber… and others now using loading zones and other drop-offs because they just had no alternative.”
He says the green and white poles are specifically for school zones, while the blue and white poles are for regular ride-sharing drop-offs.
