September vehicle sales figures show up some interesting facts

David Berthon

Official V-Facts car sales figures for September saw sales up 20.8 percent on Sept last year.

Demand for new vehicles remains high despite mainly online purchasers, click and collect delivery and the impact of the global microprocessor shortage which has affected most importers. Some importers more so, Toyota expect delays on its popular hybrid RAV4 of up to 10 months from ordering.

Electric cars continue to gain traction, up 191 per cent albeit from a low base to just 466 sales, hybrid sales up 35 percent to 6959, petrol sales up by 20 percent to 44,872, diesel by 35 percent to 26,800. Japan remains our biggest vehicle import source at 34 percent, 21 percent from Thailand, 13.5 percent from Korea, 6.8 percent from China and 4 percent from Germany. USA imports now 3 percent of sales, UK imports just 2 percent, once our biggest import source.
