Qld racing industry threatens strike over betting tax
Queensland trainers, owners and jockeys are threatening to boycott local meetings coinciding with the Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup to protest a new betting tax.
The Point of Consumption tax slugs bookmakers and betting companies 15% on all revenues from Queensland punters, well above the taxes in NSW and Victoria.
Thoroughbred Breeders Association Queensland president Basil Nolan tells Mark the industry is angry that none of the tax raised will come back to it.
