Honda’s new CR-V SUV – Prices and specification up and offering a premium feel

Driving the new mid-sized Honda CR-V SUV today, now in seven models
including a petrol/electric hybrid, and depending on the model in front and all-wheel
drive and either a five or seven-seat configuration. Pricing starts at $44,500 drive-
away, I drove the seven-seat 1.5-litre turbo petrol automatic VTi L7 front wheel
drive, middle of the range and ideal for a larger family at $53,000 drive-away. The
1.5-litre engine is a carryover and more refined but still becoming a little raucous
when worked hard with the CVT automatic – an improved continuously variable
automatic and benefiting from manual paddle shifters. Economy-wise, I managed
7.9L/100km, with the good news all CR-V models, run on 91 octane petrol. There’s
much to like with this latest mid-sized SUV from Honda – ride comfort and
suspension control are first class on well-specified 235/60 series tyres, so too
steering feel, while power front seat comfort is as good as it gets but for some
reason lacking enough seat height adjustment on the passenger side. Overall,
this new Honda CR-V has a premium air about it – driver assist technology
comprehensive while thankfully Honda has retained simple dial controls for the
aircon – no delving into touch screens here. Overall, a very welcome new mid-
sized offering from Honda.
