An incredible achievement occurred in the last 24 hours that’s been described as ‘seeing the un-seeable’, because until now every image of a black hole that we have ever seen has simply been an artist’s impression.
Now, because of the work of a very dedicated team of scientists, and the Event Horizon Telescope, we now know exactly what a black hole looks like which has generated great excitement for the scientific community as it opens up all sorts of new avenues of research & information.
To learn more, Michael turns to Renee Spiewak, a PhD candidate at Swinburne University, who studies neutron stars and uses them to detect binary super-massive black holes.
