Former Home and Away star opens up on his mental health struggle

Australian actor Ben Steel says the making of a film on mental wellbeing helped him confront his own demons.

Ben directed and spoke with 42,000 people working in the Australian entertainment industry about their mental health, for the film ‘The Show Must Go On’.

The former Home and Away star says the entertainment industry is filled with the struggles of dealing with fame, social media trolls and the constant pressure to live up to a certain image.

Ben tells Steve Price the making of the film helped him learn more about his own struggle.

“I think it was through the process of making the film… that I actually realised just how close to the edge I was.

“I really had to do a lot of work on myself to heal. Without the film, I might not have made it through.

“Not much attention or air is given to the darker side of things and there are lots of people struggling across the industry.”
