Barnaby Joyce: Farmers facing too much red tape to get relief

Article image for Barnaby Joyce: Farmers facing too much red tape to get relief

Barnaby Joyce says drought-stricken farmers shouldn’t have to face complicated forms to get the government aid they desperately need.

The Morrison Government’s drought envoy is calling for red tape to be cut for those trying to access drought relief.

He says the information farmers are asked to provide to apply for aid is too specific and complicated forms are preventing themĀ from getting much-needed help.

Mr Joyce tells Luke Grant the process can be much simpler.

“You’ve got to try and help everybody.

“What we’ve got at the moment is basically a social security form masquerading as a drought form.

“I know that the Prime Minister’s onside with this as well. We’re trying to work out how you make this more streamlined.

“My advice to them is you’ve basically got to change… how it works.”
