The last surviving member of The Monkees, Micky Dolenz, is suing the FBI for files it may have on the band.

The 77-year-old filed a lawsuit this week, requesting the release of records held by the FBI through the Freedom of Information Act.

Entertainment reporter Peter Ford told Laurel, Gary & Mark in the 1960s, J. Edgar Hoover ordered the surveillance of public figures, including pop-culture icons who disavowed the Vietnam War.

He said The Monkees were caught up Mr Hoover’s “paranoia”, perhaps due to apparent “subliminal messages” in their music videos.

“They’ve only handed over a small part of it, apparently.”
