Why some CityCat terminals won’t reopen until next year

Eight flood-damaged CityCat terminals are still closed after February, with some not expected to reopen until next year.

Worker and supply shortages have drawn building schedules out, leaving more than a third of the ferry stops inoperable.

Brisbane City Council’s transport committee chair Cr Ryan Murphy says “most” of the remaining eight will be up and running by the end of the year.

But according to Brisbane City Council’s website, the repair program may extend until January 2023 for at least two stations.

Mark Hine: “Weren’t they designed to be flood-proof?”

Laurel Edwards: “Look, in fairness, they did an incredible job at stopping further damage but when you’ve got that much flowing downstream, just smashing into them, it’s pretty hard.”
