We’ve ‘go to be pragmatic’ about migration, Senator Jim Molan

Liberal Senator Jim Molan says Australia needs to get “pragmatic” and “set the standard” on migration.

Today, new figures revealed the positive impact migrants have on the local economy.

But what the figures didn’t show was the increasing pressure those higher immigration numbers have on our cities.

Senator Molan tells Chris Smith the argument keeps going “backwards and forwards” and something needs to be done.

“Sometimes we’re to blame in that we don’t set the standard.

“A couple of years ago we were getting about 300,000 foreign students coming into this country. We’re now getting 500,000 per year.

“They impact on our resources…. and certainly on our infrastructure.”

Senator Molan says we’re a “charitable” nation but we must be “pragmatic”.
