Water birth services return to 10 Qld hospitals after pandemic
Water births have returned to Queensland hospitals following disruptions caused by the pandemic.
Queensland Health says the alternative birthing method will return to 10 of the state’s hospitals but the service is subject to change.
The service was initially ceased due to uncertainty around the transmission of COVID-19.
Obstetrician and gynaecologist Gino Pecoraro told Spencer Howson it’s not uncommon for the service to be suspended.
“It stops being offered in times of drought when we’ve got restrictions, if we haven’t got the infection control sorted out, if one of the cranes breaks,” he said.
“Everything has to be going absolutely perfect for places that have … them to offer.”
