After wet weather due to La Niña, south-east Queensland is expected to see a boom in mosquito numbers this year.

Nine News reporter Nick Kelly, who is covering the issue, said authorities are warning of perfect breeding conditions for mosquitoes this summer.

“What they are telling us is be wary if the fact that what could follow a boom in the mosquito numbers is a boom in the kind of viruses mosquitoes carry, things like Ross River fever,” he told Sofie Formica on 4BC Afternoons.

He said authorities are warning for people to get rid of stagnant water around the house.

Water tanks are also an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes too.
