A local MP has welcomed community consultation on the future of the flood-ravaged Toombul Shopping Centre.

The company that runs the site, Mirvac, has come under fire for its handling of the closure of the centre.

Yesterday, the property giant’s CEO, local state MP Leanne Linard and federal MP Anika Wells met to discuss what will happen next, including a re-imagined vision for the centre.

“The meeting went well yesterday, I think the community will probably be a bit disappointed with some of the timelines that they communicated, but I appreciated that the CEO at our request came up and personally briefed us on it,” Ms Linard told Neil Breen.

In the coming days, the community and traders will be invited to share their thoughts about what they want to see on the site.

Ms Linard said she expected some disappointment about the long wait time.

“Their statement yesterday was that they wouldn’t be in a position to lodge any development applications to Brisbane City Council until the second half of next year, and they want that to be informed by community consultation.”
