The Police Minister will have some questions to answer around the inquiry into police responses to domestic violence when parliament sits again next week.

It’s been a tumultuous inquiry, with data showcasing 1676 complaints made against 738 members of the QPS, relating to complaints from between June 2020 and June 2022.

Shadow minister for police Dale Last told Bill McDonald in light of the bombshell evidence, Minister Mark Ryan will need to “step up and outline what he has known” about the issue.

“Was he briefed?” Mr Last continued. “What was his level of awareness and understanding of these issues that have been raised at this inquiry and the evidence that’s been given.

“I think that needs to be prosecuted and certainly with parliament coming up next week, I’ll be looking for those answers from the Police Minister.”

The Member for Burdekin wouldn’t be drawn into commenting on whether Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll should play a role in addressing issues raised by the inquiry.

“In terms of the Commissioner’s position, I want to see the final report when this inquiry concludes before I make any further comment in that space.”

Ms Carroll yesterday told the inquiry she had been sexually harassed and abused by colleagues during the 1980s and 1990s.
