Tanya Plibersek has commended the speeches delivered by former Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins and 2021 Australian of the Year Grace Tame at the National Press Club today.

“I thought they were brilliant speeches,” the Federal Labor MP told Scott Emerson.

“And I am so impressed by this generation of young women leaders who have had a gutful of year after year being faced with these incredible statistics about the number of kids who experience child sexual assault, about the number of women who experience domestic violence … it’s no wonder people are saying enough is enough.”

Asked about whether Labor has approached Ms Tame to campaign with the party or become a candidate, Ms Plibersek says she wasn’t aware of any approach being made.

“I can tell you she is an amazing young woman … any political party would be lucky to have her.”

Ms Tame revealed at the Press Club that Labor heavyweight Kim Beazley had tried to sway her into politics, although she declined.
