Supermarket price hikes predicted in 2022

Australians can expect to see some food prices going up this year.

QUT retail expert Professor Gary Mortimer says shoppers could be hit with price hikes at the checkout.

“There’s been a lot of discussions around food prices going up,” he told Scott Emerson.

“Certainly the big supermarkets have come out and said listen we do expect to see food inflation anywhere between 3-5 per cent this year, theCEO of SPC said listen it might be close to 8 per cent in some categories.

“One of the way manufacturers may choose to keep their prices at the same level is by giving customers just a bit less in each pack.”
