Volkswagen Group sells a prized British possession

While most of us can only ever dream of owning a Rolls-Royce the upper luxury brand through 115 years of existence has always had a certain fascination. And of course when Henry Royce introduced his Silver Ghost to the world in 1906 it quickly gained the title of The Best Car in the World.  And with the original Silver Ghost still in existence it was used by the company to promote the brand worldwide. As we all know, Rolls-Royce and Bentley fell into German hands 20 years ago – Rolls-Royce to BMW and Bentley to Volkswagen Group – the original Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost ending up with Volkswagen but of no use promotionally for Bentley. So the world’s most expensive collector car has rarely been seen since in recent years. But with heritage of little value today in a market that has not grown up with automotive history Volkswagen has sold it to an American, price unknown, but suspected to be well north of 50,000 million pounds.
