The Government’s proposed ‘misinformation laws’ threaten free speech

Phil O'Neil

Luke is joined by Keith Pitt, the NLP Federal Member for Hinkler, who has written to his constituents expressing his perspective on the government’s proposed ‘Ministry of Truth’ initiatives..

“The Federal Government has moved to strengthen the Australian Communication and Media Authority allowing them to impose multimillion dollar fines on social media companies in the name of combatting misinformation,” writes Mr Pitt.

“Make no mistake – it is our freedom of speech which will ultimately pay the price.”

“The censorship enforced by social media companies is bad enough, but now the government is getting involved and introducing their ‘Orwellian thought police”.  The government should never dictate to its citizens, via social media companies or otherwise, which opinions are allowed or not.”

“My view is simple.  Free speech is free speech.  No ifs, or buts.”
