Not surprisingly, new research by the country’s top motoring group the Australian Automobile Association or (AAA) has found the average family transport costs this year have gone through the roof. The Research found that Sydney was Australia’s most expensive city for transport with families now spending an average $461.57 a week or 15.4 percent of income on getting around. This has risen by $49.99 a week since the previous quarter of December last year, the biggest single quarterly cost increase since the AAA started its Transport Affordability Index in 2016.

The index is collated using eight key transport outgoings – tolls, car loans, fuel, public transport, insurance, servicing, tyres,  registration, CTP and License fees. Sydney drivers now spend a weekly average of $87 in tolls,  Melbourne drivers $68.58,  Brisbane drivers $52.80. Ever rising tolls are now out of control in Sydney and the State Government needs to urgently address the issue.
