Shift workers warned of increased health risks
With the COVID-19 crisis disrupting much of our workforce this year, the dangers of ‘burnout’ have become very real. Now, new data has emerged to reveal the detrimental impact of shift work on one’s health.
According to Monash University’s ‘SWIFt’ study, shift workers are at greater risk of weight gain, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease…as if disrupted eating habits and out-of-sync sleep patterns weren’t enough already.
Led by Associate Professor. Maxine Bonham, this study follows night shift workers, monitoring their blood glucose levels, insulin and body measurements in the hope of improving health outcomes for those at risk.
Maxine joins John Stanley to stress the importance of making informed decisions when it comes to any and all medical procedures.
