Porsche drops diesel power from its line-up

Not surprisingly Porsche announced this week that it was dropping diesel powered models from its range as customer demand continues to drop and as its alternative powertrain program ramps up. The move is not unexpected and other manufacturers are expected to follow in coming years. So far this year diesel private passenger car sales in Australia have dropped 30 per cent while non-private diesel sales are down 18 per cent.
As a sports car manufacturer diesel has always played a secondary role for Porsched however the popularity of its Cayenne and Macan SUV’s made diesel power an obvious choice. The diesel announcement comes as Porsche commits Aud10 billion dollars to its e-mobility electrification program. Like many manufacturers Porsche is working towards an electrified future proclaiming that by 2025 every second vehicle could be hybrid or purely electric – the world of motoring as we know it is going to change dramatically in the next ten years.
