Jim Haynes’ not-so-famous Aussie characters
Michael is joined each week by Aussie historian, author & entertainer Jim Haynes, for his unique knowledge of the not-so-famous characters from Australia’s history.
This week Jim shines the spotlight on James Hardy Vaux – Who Was Transported Three Times
James Hardy Vaux was born in Surrey in 1782, the son of a butler and house steward, and the only convict known to have been transported three times to New South Wales on three separate occasions.
He was the author of Memoirs of James Hardy Vaux including A Vocabulary of the Flash Language, first published in 1819, which is regarded as both the first full length autobiography and first dictionary written in Australia.
