Jaguar’s first electric vehicle, the I-PACE SUV, takes the 2019 World Car of the Year gong

Talking further today on Jaguar’s new premium electric AWD SUV – I tested the mid-spec SE EV400 at $130,000. Fresh from winning the coveted 2019 World Car of the Year, 2019 World Green Car and 2019 World Car Design of the Year. As I said earlier, the architecture of the Jaguar i-PACE is stunning – the mid-spec SE EV400 I tested at $130,200 captured a huge interest wherever I drove it – the lack of an internal combustion engine up front meant Jaguar was able to provide a smart cab-forward design together with short overhangs, muscular haunches and a sporty low roof profile – very practical in that the interior is generous both in front and rear legroom while headroom does not suffer. Jaguar brought the I-PACE to market with a very short lead time and it’s a winner in many ways – well supported by them with a standard warranty of five-years/200,000 kms while the battery warranty carries a separate eight-year/160,000 km warranty cover. And there’s five years of free servicing as well. I’ll talk about the driving nature of this premium electric jaguar next weekend but some basics – the driving range is 470kms on a full battery charge so for most daily commutes you should be able to go five days without any range anxiety – I charged overnight from a standard power point – over twelve hours gaining another 120 kms of range. Jaguar claim the installation of a 7kW AC wallbox at $2,280 would be three times faster – providing around 35km of range per hour. Drive impressions next week, I’m David Berthon
