Human trials of Coeliac Disease vaccine in Qld

About one in 70 Australians suffer Coeliac Disease – a potentially dangerous immune system response to gluten from grains.

For sufferers a slice of bread, a beer or the wrong sauce at a restaurant can lead to fatigue, intestinal damage, infertility, type-1 diabetes and osteoporosis.

There is some hope with the second stage of human trials of a vaccine in Queensland.

Gastroenterologist Dr James Daveson is one of the lead investigators and he tells Mark it’s hoped it will spend the end to gluten free diets.
