Eurovision New Year’s Day

Peter Fegan

Not only was Wednesday the first day of Spring….. it was New Year’s Day for fans of Eurovision!

What does that mean?

Well, one of the key rules of Eurovision is that only songs released after September 1st of the previous year can be entered in the competition.

It’s the reason why – when Eurovision 2020 didn’t go ahead – artists (including our own Montaigne) couldn’t just rock up with the same song in 2021.

So with September 1st behind us, the countdown can begin to Eurovision 2022.

And the exciting news for us here in Southeast Queensland is that SBS has announced that Eurovision-Australia Decides will go ahead on the Gold Coast in February.

Dr Jess Carniel from the University of Southern Queensland wrote the book on Australia at Eurovision – and she joins you now.
