A proposal has been unveiled to build a $400 million Energy From Waste plant at Swanbank south of Ipswich.

German company Remondis says rubbish that would otherwise end up in landfill will instead be used to power a generator capable of powering 50,000 homes.

Remondis Queensland Manager Bret Collins tells Mark the company would like to start construction in 2020.
