Can Australia support 40 million people?
Australia is forecast to hit a population of more than 40 million by 2040, which will be its slowest rate of growth since federation.
The prediction, which comes from the the latest intergenerational report, found population growth is projected to slow to an annual average of 1.1% over the next 40 years, compared with 1.4% over the past four decades.
