Australian woman escapes death penalty in Malaysia

Natalie Peters

A 54-year-old mother of four from Sydney has avoided the death penalty for drug charges.

Exposto was found not guilty of smuggling one-kilogram of methamphetamine into Malaysia in October 2014.

Exposto claims she was set up as part of an online dating scam after she was found with the drugs in her bag.

The judge accepted her explanation, but Exposto’s lawyers say prosecutors will appeal the decision.

Melbourne Barrister, lawyer to members of the Bali Nine and President of Reprieve Australia Julian McMahon speaks with Natalie Peters about the death penalty overseas and the changing trends in relation to the death penalty.
