Are you losing yourself in your job?

Phil O'Neil

It’s great when you love your job. But if you let it become all-consuming it can lead to burnout, isolation, and a sense of losing yourself outside of your professional identity. Many people, especially those with young families, struggle to find balance.

Phil speaks with Strategic Psychotherapist, Bronwyn Penhaligon, shares her tips to help people restore that balance:

1 Make time for yourself. It’s not indulgent, it’s essential. Schedule a coffee catchup or a gym session and treat it like a meeting.

2. Set boundaries. Have clear work hours and stick to them.

3. Reconnect with friends. A quick message, a call during your commute or a monthly catch up can make a huge difference.

4. Talk about how you’re feeling. Isolation can creep up, so recognising it is the first step to making a change.

If you’ve built a career, you can build a life that includes more than work.
