A new mid-sized Honda SUV on the horizon

David Berthon

Honda Australia has just launched its updated compact HR-V SUV, moving it more upmarket. On the horizon however is a new SUV, most likely dubbed the ZR-V, that will sit between the HR-V and the larger CR-V – a Mazda CX-5 sized SUV that will give the local company a broader profile in the burgeoning SUV market.

Expected in local showrooms next year the ZR-V will be a shot in the arm for Honda Australia which has seen its sales curtail since the introduction of its new agency sales model which sees fixed pricing with a non-negotiable contract – the company suggesting the new customer centric business model focuses on quality over quantity.

Sales April year to date however are 38.5 percent below the same time last year. A Civic hybrid variant is due in the second half of the year and an all-new Civic Type R sports hatch early in 2023.
