Plastic bag ban could be hurting the economy
The plastic bag ban has led to customers spending less in supermarkets, according to a new report.
The report suggests the plastic bag ban is affecting consumer habits and in turn damaging the economy.
The Department of Treasury found customers increasingly bought things they could instead carry, without buying a reusable bag, and delayed purchases of heavier groceries.
Master Grocers CEO Jos De Bruin tells Ross Greenwood it is just one of many things affecting consumers.
“We see the plastic bag phenomenon as a bit of a short term matter.
“It’s really interesting to see the behaviour of consumers, initially, but I think that we will mature.”
