Part-owner Peter Tighe speaks on Winx’s race with history
Winx, the seemingly invincible champion mare that’s captivated the heart of the nation, will go after history tomorrow.
If her nose crosses the line first in tomorrow’s Group 1 $500, 000 Winx Stakes race at Royal Randwick, she’ll have secured an unprecedented victory.
A 26th successive win – surpassing the victory streak of racing legend, Black Caviar.
Peter Tighe, a part owner of Winx, says he can’t believe how besotted Australia has become with his horse.
“It’s so humbling. The public just adore the horse, it’s an absolute thrill,” he tells Luke Grant.
“They have a great love affair with her and it’s just fantastic for the sport of horse racing.”
“She’s a gift to the sport, to us, to the public in general in Australia.”
As for tomorrow’s big race, Peter’s keeping a lid on his expectations.
“I’m as confident as you can be. It’s a sporting event. There is going to be an element of luck involved. But the trainer has done everything possible to get her ready.”
“So we’ve got a bit of confidence. But we’re certainly not over-confident.”
