Pallara man charged with hundreds of offences over alleged identity fraud

Police say an alleged identity fraud scam that hundreds of people fell prey to has been shut down after the arrest of a Brisbane man.
The 30-year-old is accused of scamming hundreds of people for at least two years, some of whom had no idea they were victims of identity fraud until they were told by police.
Detectives say he was in the possession of the identification information of more than 160 people, including images of their driver licences, passports, birth certificates and Medicare cards.
It’s further alleged he had 1536 passwords associated with his victims’ bank and social media accounts, and even lodged tax returns on behalf of 12 people.
Detective Senior Sergeant Justin Anderson said officers also found he had threatened to murder two of his victims, and release the personal information of another in an extortion attempt.
The Pallara man has been charged with more than 300 offences.
