Fundraising campaigns have raised more than $140 million for bushfire-afflicted communities, leaving many wondering how the money is being used.

Australian Red Cross NSW/ACT Director Poppy Brown spoke with Luke Grant to clear up the matter.

“We’re really conscious about making sure that every dollar that we spend is spent wisely.”

She says the Red Cross communicates with and works alongside other charities and grassroots organisations to decide how best to spend donations.

Of the $60 million raised for the Red Cross’ Disaster Relief and Recovery fund so far, $15 million will be awarded as $5000 grants for those who have lost their homes.
