‘Out of control’: Youth crime in Queensland continues to escalate

Thieves have been sent running after a man in Brisbane’s north scared the youths off.
Bridgeman Downs resident Stephen Lee spotted a group of people attempting to steal his neighbour’s car, when he screamed at them and they fled.
Fed up with the situation, he told Sofie Formica something desperetly needs to be done to stop Queensland youth crime.
“It’s just got way out of control. Enough is enough. The government just isn’t doing anything to fix this.”

The state opposition is renewing calls for parliament to resume early, to deal with the youth crime crisis.
The issue has been in the spotlight after two teenagers were accused of firing a gun in Tara earlier this week.
The state Government has promised changes to court operations, tougher sentencing options, and a second new youth prison last month.
Criminology and Criminal Justice expert Professor Ross Homel told Sofie Formica he doesn’t think it’s necessarily the right approach.
