The Queensland government is looking to fast-track a proposal to restrict protesters who cause dangerous disruptions in the state. 

Under the proposed legislation protesters caught using ‘dangerous devices’ could face up to two years in jail and police would have greater powers to confiscate the objects.

Possessing a locking device like a ‘dragon’s den’, ‘sleeping dragon’, ‘mono-pole’ or ‘tripod’ would be illegal.

The legislation was expected to be passed at the end of November but will instead be debated in the next parliament sitting, which begins next week.

Queensland Police Minister Mark Ryan tells Ben Fordham something needs to be done to keep officers safe.

“These are devices which have no other legitimate purpose than to cause massive disruption and to put our emergency responders at risk when they seek to remove these devices.”
