A human rights lawyer has hit back at claims the Royal Commission into Robodebt is a political point-scoring exercise.

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton claimed in August Labor’s response is a “witch-hunt” and a means of scoring a “political advantage”.

But Leanne Ho, a lawyer at Economic Justice Australia, says the terms of reference are “really apolitical”.

“From our perspective, [it’s] important to make sure all victims of Robodebt have all their experiences and the impacts on them recognised.”
