Man fronts UK court over alleged threat to ‘kill the Queen’ with crossbow

A man who got into the grounds of Windsor Castle, armed with a crossbow, told police he wanted to “kill the Queen”, a UK court has heard.
Jaswant Singh Chail has been charged with treason, threats to kill and possession of an offensive weapon after he was arrested at the royal residence on Christmas Day, 2021.
It’s alleged the 20-year-old was wearing a hood and mask and was carrying a loaded crossbow with the safety catch off.
The Westminster Magistrates Court heard he was carrying a loaded crossbow with the safety catch off and was wearing a balaclava when a protection officer stopped him.
Prosecutors allege the man told the officer “I am here to kill the Queen” before he was handcuffed and arrested.
Chail was allegedly seeking revenge on the British establishment for its treatment of Indians, and sent a video to around 20 people where he claimed he would assassinate the Queen.
To get close to the royal family, he had tried to join the British Army and the Ministry of Defence Police, prosecutors allege.
Chail appeared via videolink for yesterday’s hearing from a psychiatric institution where he’s in custody.
He’s been remanded in custody until the next hearing next month.
