The Lord Mayor has tipped Brisbane’s electric buses will be locally produced in the future. 

Brisbane City Council copped backlash in May after the manufacture of a number of buses was deferred to China.

With Australian industry ramping up, Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner told Neil Breen local companies could be contracted in future.

“At the moment, 99 per cent of the world’s electric buses are actually built in China,” he told Neil Breen.

“I fully anticipate going forward when we make much larger purchases, that we’re going to have local companies providing those buses.”
