Liberal MP rubbishes plan to pay farmers to leave the land

A Liberal MP has criticised suggestions the government should pay struggling farmers to leave the land.

The National Farmers’ Federation has suggested drought-affected farmers should be given exit packages as an incentive to leave the land.

The Coalition’s backbench agriculture committee has met today to discuss the recommendations.

But Liberal National Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt tells Steve Price the government won’t be giving up on our farmers.

“My first priority is to ensure that we keep farmers on their land, not encourage them to move to the city and take their family and kids with them.”
