The Opposition is calling for the government to increase the number of mental health consultations allowed under the Medicare cap for those in bushfire-affected areas.

Labor has called on the government to develop a national health care response for those affected by the bushfires.

They want the Medicare cap, which currently allows 10 free mental health consultations, to be lifted.

Shadow Health Minister Chris Bowen tells Natalie Peters and Erin Molan this needs to be immediately considered.

“The health implications of this crisis will be long term.

“If we don’t get this right now we’ll all be paying the price in ten years time as people are still dealing with mental health.”
