‘Inexplicable’: Hundreds of QLD farmers left without support for months
Hundreds of struggling farmers have been left in the lurch after being kicked off the farm household allowance.
The government announced, earlier in the year, farmers who reach the four-year cap will receive lump-sum payments.
But the Courier-Mail reports more than 300 Queensland farmers had been left without financial support for months while waiting for the lump sums to be approved just in time for Christmas.
There have been almost 1000 farmers who have lost the payment nationwide.
Opposition agriculture spokesman Joel Fitzgibbon tells Mark Levy this is ‘inexplicable’.
“The government has offered no rationale.
“You should not be cutting people off this payment while this very severe drought is ongoing.”
