The National Disability Insurance Scheme will go under an independent review, following projected high costs.

Neil Breen spoke to Dougie Herd, a panel member on the review, about the upcoming assessment.

The former NDIS coordinator was clear about the benefits that the scheme brings.

“I think the question is whether or not we have a system… that gives to all the people with disability who need it,” he said.

Dougie Herd, who is a quadriplegic and a wheelchair user, recognises the high cost of the scheme.

However, he also emphasised how important the scheme is to the 4 million Australians who are disabled.

“I don’t want it to cost a cent more than it needs to cost… but I also want it to be the best it can be,” he said
