Heroic Sergeant describes the moment he put his life on the line at Nepean Hospital

Ray Hadley sat down for an extended interview with Sergeant Luke Warburton, who put his own life on the line to save a doctor at Nepean Hospital in 2016.
In January 2016, Sergeant Luke Warburton was convinced he was going to die.
He was the first officer to respond to a chaotic scene at Nepean Hospital, where he was faced with an erratic man holding a pair of surgical scissors to the neck of a distraught doctor.
Acting heroically, he wrestled the man to the ground before hearing gunshots.

He tells Ray he’s convinced he would have died if he wasn’t already in a hospital.
“I’d be six feet under by now.
“When they were dragging me out there was blood stretched from the cubicle out to me, and I thought ‘that’s it’”.
After 14 lifesaving surgeries, including one that had never been performed in Australia before, he’s now back on the force.
Luke also tells Ray the incredible story of how he and his police dog Chuck brought down Australia’s most wanted man, Malcolm Naden, after a seven-year manhunt.
