Health researchers call for warning messages on cigarettes

Australian researches are calling for health warnings to be printed on individual cigarettes to encourage people to quit.
A new study has recommended that health warnings on cigarette sticks would be in front of smokers’ eyes at all times and could be more effective than graphic images on packets.
The warnings would include “minutes of life lost” from each cigarette smoked.
James Cook University lecturer Dr Aaron Drovandi tells Karl Stefanovic he is confident this could encourage people to quit smoking.
“Smokers like to think that they know all the consequences of smoking… not everybody knows all of the issues because there are still issues being discovered.
“Most smokers do actually regret the fact that they are smoking.”
