An army of grey nomads are volunteering their time to help drought-stricken communities.

The initiative is led by Australia’s oldest bush charity, Frontier Services, to carry out a range of jobs for struggling farmers.

More than 1000 grey nomads have undergone background checks and have joined in on the fight against the drought.

Grey nomads are retired people who spend their time travelling around, typically in a caravan.

Frontier Services director Jannine Jackson tells Alan Jones they welcome the help.

“It’s unprecedented some of this stuff that’s going on at the moment, this really long drought that I don’t know how we are going to recover from.”
