The gas industry is wary of any potential deal the government may have made on behalf of the domestic gas supply.

The Centre Alliance was seeking some sort of gas reservation policy in return for their support of the tax cuts.

Reports suggest a draft gas policy was presented to the Centre Alliance but it is unclear what the policy includes.

There are suggestions it could include changes to the trigger mechanism for the Australian Domestic Gas Security Mechanism.

Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association CEO Andrew McConville tells Ross Greenwood government intervention could reduce investment.

“If governments start to intervene, start to introduce control mechanisms, it undermines confidence and that’s a real problem.

“The domestic gas market is working… we just don’t see that there’s a need for the government to come along and intervene in the market which is working.”
