Former WA premier warns against preference deals with Clive Palmer

The former Western Australia premier has warned a preference deal with Clive Palmer could be disastrous for the Liberal Party.

Scott Morrison has refused to rule out doing preference deals with Clive Palmer.

Former WA Liberal premier Colin Barnett tells Ross Greenwood a deal with Clive Palmer could harm the Liberal Party.

“I would expect that if the Liberal Party was to do a preference swap with Clive Palmer, there may be some gains in some country areas, but I think in metropolitan areas… they would see a loss of Liberal support.

“And that wouldn’t go to some other party… it would go to the Labor Party.

“I think Clive doesn’t have motives that aren’t entirely selfish.”
