An emergency situation has been declared in Ipswich, while police respond to reports of a suspicious device.

Officers have shut down streets in Booval and the bomb squad has been brought in.

The exclusion zone includes Brisbane Road, Alexander Street, Clifton Street, and Bergin Street.

Those who live nearby have been told to stay inside until further notice.
