There have been disturbing reports of Brisbane and Ipswich residents finding dead lorikeets.

The RSPCA reports a total of 1,727 lorikeets have been admitted to their Wildlife Animal Hospital this year.

Dr Jeannet Kessels, the owner of director of Greater Springfield Veterinary, shed some light on the situation.

“I had a bit of a talk to some wildlife veterinary specialists and there’s a concern that some of the lorikeets being found have something called lorikeet paralysis syndrome,” she explained on 4BC Drive.

She says it can occur seasonally, peaking around December/January.

Sometimes the birds can be saved.
